Material Description

0.7070 / GGG-70 is a high-strength nodular cast iron with approximately 700 MPa tensile strength, but it is still a relatively easy material to machine. Its very low elongation of around 2% produces naturally short chips, while its good thermal conductivity helps reduce thermal load on the cutting edge. Tool selection should therefore focus mainly on resistance to abrasive wear rather than on a particularly sharp or tough cutting edge; robust, wear-resistant geometries and grades, including those used for higher-strength or hardened materials, can perform very well. For turning, CVD-coated carbide is often an excellent choice due to its high resistance to flank and abrasive wear. The main additional concern is the harder and more abrasive cast surface when machining directly through the casting skin.
