Material Description
ETG 88 is normally supplied cold drawn in a high-strength condition, typically around 28 HRC and 800–950 MPa. Despite its relatively high strength, the high sulphur content gives it excellent machinability and good chip breaking. Sharp stainless-steel geometries can still work very well, while general-purpose tools and geometries are usually the preferred choice. Where maximum tool life and edge stability are required, stronger grades and geometries intended for higher-strength or pre-hardened steels can also be advantageous.
