Material Description
BÖHLER M303 EXTRA is a corrosion-resistant martensitic tool steel normally supplied in the quenched and tempered (pre-hardened) condition, typically around 32 HRC. Its machining behaviour is similar to EN 1.2316 and is strongly influenced by its relatively high strength. It is generally best machined like a conventional steel of similar strength, but with somewhat lower cutting speeds due to its low thermal conductivity. Universal carbide tools and geometries suitable for medium- to high-strength steels are recommended. Sharp stainless-steel geometries can also perform well, while stronger cutting edges designed for pre-hardened steels may provide better tool life and stability.
