Material Description

2.1247 / CuBe2 is a precipitation-hardened copper-beryllium alloy with very good thermal conductivity, but in the supplied condition it reaches approximately 40 HRC and around 1200 MPa. Tool selection should therefore be based primarily on its strength and hardness rather than on the fact that it is a non-ferrous alloy: universal tools or grades and geometries intended for high-strength and hardened materials are usually the best choice. Compared with steel of similar strength or hardness, significantly higher cutting speeds can often be used because the material conducts heat away from the cutting zone much more effectively. Due to the beryllium content, avoid processes that generate airborne dust or fumes and use appropriate extraction or wet machining where required.
