Material Description
AMS 4590 / UNS C63020 is a high-strength nickel-aluminium bronze, typically supplied in the quenched and tempered condition (TQ50), with a tensile strength approaching 1000 MPa. Despite being a copper-based alloy, its machining behaviour is similar to that of quenched and tempered high-strength steels, but with higher thermal conductivity, allowing relatively higher cutting speeds. Conventional carbide tools and geometries designed for high-strength steels are recommended, while sharp tools intended for soft non-ferrous metals are generally unsuitable due to the material's high strength and hardness. Its excellent wear resistance, load-bearing capacity and corrosion resistance make it suitable for heavily loaded mechanical components.
