Material Description
Invar 36 is an iron-nickel controlled-expansion alloy containing approximately 36% Ni, known primarily for its exceptionally low thermal expansion. It is widely used for precision measuring equipment, optical and laser systems, aerospace tooling, dimensional standards and cryogenic components where dimensional stability with temperature is critical. From a machining perspective, its low thermal conductivity and ductility are important characteristics; it behaves considerably differently from ordinary structural steels despite its relatively modest tensile strength.
