Material Description
1.2343 / X37CrMoV5-1 is a hot-work tool steel normally supplied soft annealed (+A) at approximately 220–230 HB and around 750 MPa. In this condition it is reasonably easy to machine and general-purpose tools and geometries for medium-strength steels are usually the best choice; sharper geometries can also work well and there is normally no need to use tools for hardened materials. After machining, 1.2343 is commonly hardened and tempered to approximately 50–52 HRC for hot-work applications such as dies, moulds and forging tools.
