Material Description
1.2311 is normally supplied quenched and tempered (+QT), typically around 30 HRC, although the actual hardness depends on the manufacturer, section size and heat treatment. In large blocks, hardness and strength may decrease toward the core; for very large sections, approximately above 300 mm. General-purpose tools can still perform well, while more robust grades and geometries intended for higher-strength or pre-hardened steels can provide longer tool life.
