Material Description
1.1201 / C45R is a medium-carbon steel with a controlled sulphur content, giving better and more consistent chip breaking than C45E while maintaining very similar mechanical properties. In the normal machining condition, general-purpose tools are usually the best choice, while sharper geometries, including many geometries used for stainless steels, can also work very well. The material can also be quenched and tempered or surface hardened, so always check the actual condition before machining.
