Material Description
1.0503 / C45 is a common medium-carbon steel, typically supplied hot rolled or untreated. It machines well with general-purpose tools, while sharper geometries, including many tools intended for stainless steels, can also work very well; there is normally no need to use geometries designed for high-strength steels. C45 can be quenched and tempered or surface hardened, so always check the actual condition before machining — hardened areas require tools and cutting conditions selected according to the resulting hardness.
